How best to plan for your project with RKB

Some important renovation and building advice

  1. Look to appoint your builder at the same time as your designer. It is important that these two professionals work collaboratively to ensure your designs are accurate and reflect your budget.
  2. Ensure your builder is fully licenced with the Qld Building and Construction Commission as well as having the relevant insurances to conduct your project.
  3. You truly get what you pay for when renovating, so make sure you choose a builder who understands your expectations, communicates effectively and presents professionally. It is important that you trust your builder and his ability to deliver your project. This person will be in your life for the duration of the project and it is imperative that you feel comfortable having your builder around your home and family.
  4. Documentation is key in a builder being able to provide an accurate price for your renovation. Ensure you have taken the time to compile accurate plans, engineering and specifications, ideally with your preferred builder involved in this process. With RKB Renovations you will receive an itemised scope of works and cost breakdown for each trade so you can clearly see what has been included in your quote.

At RKB Renovations, we offer a unique consultancy service that can assist you with your renovation project from Concept Stage, through the Design Process to Construction and Completion.

Architects and Building Designers are experts in their respective fields, however have minimal knowledge of actual costs when it comes to the construction process. One of the main reasons we see projects not going ahead is that the client has a design that does not fit their budget. By this point they have outlaid a significant amount of money for their plans only to have to make amendments to their design to fit their budget or not proceed with the project at all.

As part of our pre-construction process, we will do a thorough inspection of your existing property to ensure your final pricing is as accurate as possible. Things such as asbestos testing, electrical and plumbing checks and inspecting the existing structural elements of the house all ensure these things are factored into the final designs and the chance of unpleasant surprises during construction is minimised.

We work collaboratively with the  design team to ensure the project designs fit your budget and provide real time advice on areas such as choice of materials, construction method and selections. This way when the design is finalised the client has greater peace of mind that their project will be on budget and that they will achieve their dream renovation!
